“Look What He Can Do!”
Last evening we heard the familiar ringtone letting us know that our newest grandson, Levi, was FaceTiming us. (Well, his parents handled the technology as he is only 8 months old.)
We answered the call to see his smiling little face showing off the two little teeth he now has. Our son and daughter-in-love said, “Look what he can do!” It didn’t take much prompting from them for our little strawberry blonde to start clapping! We got so excited ~as only grandparents can do~ saying things like “Yay, Levi!”, “What a big boy you are!”, “Show Grammie…clap,clap,clap!” The more excited our faces and intonations were, the more he clapped! It was a joyous call for all involved and they proceeded to show us how he was standing up by himself and balancing. At the end of our conversation he was also proud to show us his little full-arm ‘bye-bye’ wave.
When we hung up, the phrase “Look what he can do!” stayed with me. I kept replaying all those little accomplishments, and the more I thought about them, the more I could sense the joy welling up in me. Then another thought came, “Isn’t this how I should respond to my Heavenly Father?” “Look what He can do!” If I can get this excited about Levi clapping, standing up and waving goodbye, how much more should my heart overflow with excitement for the things the Lord can do!
Look what He can do! He is the Creator of all things (John 1:3 ESV)
Look what He can do! The same way He provided divine intervention for the Israelites parting the Red Sea, He still “parts the waters” for us today, when situations threaten to overtake us (Exodus 14:14)
Look what He can do! Jesus restored sight to a blind man, cured a leper, told a paralytic to get up and walk; and today he still reaches down to heal! (Psalm 103:3)
Look what He can do! In situations that cause us to worry or be anxious, He carries our burdens (I Peter 5:7)
Look what He can do! He provides His presence and a “perfect peace” in situations that have the potential to be anything but peaceful (Isaiah 26:3)
Look what He can do! God can do "immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine”! (Ephesians 3:20)
Best of all, Look what He can do! God provides forgiveness and salvation through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus (I John 2:1-2)
I wonder… what if every time I saw God meet a need, provide His peace or healing, or reveal His goodness my heart’s response was to burst with the same joy and excitement? If I offered my voice in praise and reminded myself “Look what He can do!”
The joy and excitement that we had from the moment Levi grinned at us was in part because of our great love for him. We delight in him because we love him so very much. How much more should my heart overflow when I think about all the things my Savior has done and will do!
